About Fate – Synopsis
How much do you believe in fate? I’m sure you might if you came home to Mr Right asleep in your flat.. Well that’s what happens with Margot and Griffin – but is fate enough to break up both of their existing relationships?
About Fate – Review
This is such a feel good, funny movie – which was actually somewhat unexpected. It was either going to be a hit or a flop, but it definitely hit the mark for me. Cheery, Prince Charming vibes, and a few cringey moments well handled add in that sense of realism.
Somewhat surprisingly for a new movie (released in 2022) there aren’t any named, openly, LGBTQ+ characters, which seems like an oversight. It does however pass the Bechdel test, with some in-depth discussions about fate and the future between the sisters. I would have liked to see more representation of the female jobs; it’s clear the man is a lawyer, and a secondary character is an influencer – but what about the mains? In a world where we’re trying to push for equality and ensure young girls have good role models – this misses the mark.
Conclusion
While it’s not a traditional ‘Christmas’ movie, there are Christmas trees, a wedding, and a New Years’ party. Although some of the secondary actors are less than convincing, it’s an interesting plot and the primary actors are ace. Overall, it’s definitely worth a watch, and offers a breath of fresh air instead of the same movies on repeat.
