If you’re feeling overwhelmed at the thought of Christmas and unrealistic expectations – this is the film for you!
A Bad Moms Christmas – Synopsis
A story of three moms, where their moms descend unexpectedly, and uninvited, for Christmas. Watch the chaos of family life unfold within each household, and the unconventional – but entirely fair – coping mechanisms adopted.
A Bad Moms Christmas – Review
I’ll start by saying this is absolutely not child friendly – but it’s probably alright for teens. There’s strip clubs, swearing, alcohol, and general mayhem. This isn’t unexpected when there are multiple generations, each with a different expectation of what ‘Christmas’ means. This is a definite feel good movie, especially if you’re struggling with unrealistic expectations. It helps to give you a grounding, and put things in perspective.
From an equality perspective – there are different families represented from different backgrounds which is amazing. There is minimal LGBTQ+ representation however, although it does meet the Bechdel test very early on and throughout. I will say the one area that’s not really considered is the relationship between parents and non-parents (bringing in aunties/uncles maybe?), which would have been a nice touch!
Conclusion
Overall – I found this movie helped me settle my expectations and ‘chill’ a bit more. Particularly in light of the different expectations, this light hearted view provides a unique, comedic, perspective. From a trigger perspective, definitely check the warnings beforehand – the biggest one is likely around runaway parents. However, it is most definitely worth a watch if you have a child-free night, perhaps while doing the wrapping!
