“A prophecy has come to pass that there would come to us a chosen one, and that he having no child of his own, would love all children everywhere. He himself would be an artist and a craftsman, and a skilled maker of toys. From this day on, now and forever, you will bring our gifts to all the children in all the world, and all this is to be done on Christmas Eve.” – Santa Claus: The Movie.
Santa Claus: The Movie – Synopsis
Uncle Claus, a devoted craftsman, once made and delivered handmade gifts to all the local children in his village. One particularly stormy Christmas Eve, he, alongside his wife and reindeer, Donner and Blitzen, find themselves lost in the woods and unable to find their path. However, as the storm subsides, they are unexpectedly welcomed by an army of elves! This marks the beginning of a new, eternal life of absolute luxury for them, in a hidden elven realm. In return, Uncle Claus must assume the monumental task of delivering presents to children across the globe every Christmas, solidifying his legendary status as Santa Claus.
Santa Claus: The Movie – Review
Available in 4K, this masterpiece has been brought back to life. Patch is one of my absolute favourite elves from any Christmas movie – his creativity and attitude is ingenious. It does have a bit of a sad scene at the beginning – but it’s over pretty quickly and rest assured they all survive! With a focus on New York, the plot also has some heavier themes around orphans and childhood poverty, which is likely not much different then than it is now. Whilst it may be upsetting, I think it’s great that it shows this type of diversity in characters.
Conclusion
This is absolutely worth a watch to get you into the Christmas spirit, without being cheesy. It’s completely suitable for children, with plenty Santa content and Christmas magic, although might raise some questions about how some children don’t have homes to go to – even at Christmas.
