A Christmas masterpiece, who doesn’t love Will Ferrell, or Elf?!
Elf – Synopsis
“Elf” is a heart-warming and family-friendly comedy that follows Buddy, a human raised by elves at the North Pole. Upon discovering his true identity, Buddy embarks on a hilarious journey to New York City to find his real father, a cynical businessman on the naughty list. Mainly due to naivety, Buddy’s childlike innocence and festive spirit clash with the NYC’s harsh reality, leading to some borderline cringey moments.. As he spreads holiday cheer and bonds with his newfound family, Buddy teaches everyone the true meaning of Christmas.
Elf – Review
It’s hard to judge this harshly as it’s such a feel good movie. But with an analytical hat on, it doesn’t have a great display of diversity and is somewhat backwards thinking nowadays in terms of gender equality and norms, as well as ethnic diversity. Whilst this is ‘of the time’ when it was filmed back in the early noughties, it could still be better.
Conclusion
If you can overlook the issues, this is a family favourite that’s definitely worth a watch. It’s completely child safe, the magic of Santa and his elves included!
